From 2014-2019 our projects and initiatives were designed to accelerate Kentucky’s transition to a knowledge-based bioeconomy.
Working in collaboration with the National Science Foundation (NSF), Kentucky NSF EPSCoR assists to strengthen research and education in science and engineering. The vision of the KY NSF EPSCoR is to advance, encourage and develop long term improvements in scientific discovery, innovation and education throughout the Commonwealth.

Powering the Kentucky Bioeconomy
for a Sustainable Future
Kentucky’s Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (KY NSF EPSCoR), sponsored by the National Science Foundation, is a vital part of a coordinated effort to invest in scientific research for a better quality-of-life and a growing economy for Kentuckians.
Kentucky NSF EPSCoR was awarded a $20 million, five year cooperative agreement from the National Science Foundation in August of 2014, “Powering the Kentucky Bioeconomy for a Sustainable Future.” The NSF award was matched with an additional $4 million from the state. This five-year project is supporting activities in three research areas: Advanced Bio-Inspired Membrane Technologies, Chemical Biology for Advanced Materials, and Electrochemical Energy Storage.
